Pompeo Quarantines After Contact With COVID-19 Positive Individual Tyler Durden Wed, 12/16/2020 - 11:41 On Wednesday morning the State Department announced Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is taking voluntary self-isolation measures after coming into contact with someone who later tested positive for COVID-19. Pompeo has since tested negative following the initial contact but will quarantine "in accordance with [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] guidelines" a State Dept. spokesperson said. "Secretary Pompeo has been identified as having come into contact with someone who tested positive for COVID. For reasons of privacy we can’t identify that individual," the statement said, adding that "He is being closely monitored by the Department’s medical team." Getty Images Pompeo is the latest cabinet official to have to isolate after a spate of positive coronavirus cases within the administration of the last two months, including of course Trump himself. And further according to The Hill, "The secretary of State has raised eyebrows recently with invitations to a large indoor party, the kind of event public health officials have urged Americans to avoid out of fears they could turn into super spreader events." In particular it was an indoor holiday party at the State Department. While many hundreds of invitations were reportedly sent out, less than 100 people RSVP'd and showed up. Pompeo had actually canceled his appearance at that event Tuesday night, likely as he got word of the prior contact with a coronavirus infected person. Critics have pounced on the "irresponsible" plans of the Pompeo family to host the intended large party as it was a potential "super-spreader event," according to detractors. "The Secretary has been tested and is negative. In accordance with CDC guidelines, he will be in quarantine," the spokesperson sought to assure. Override Early Access On
