From Qualcomm's press release, buyout must take place by July 26, 2018:"Qualcomm, have agreed, among other things, to extend the end date of their purchase agreement from April 25, 2018 to July 25, 2018. Qualcomm River Holdings B.V. also agreed that if the parties have not received all required regulatory approvals, including from MOFCOM, by 11:59 p.m. New York City time on July 25, 2018, it will pay the previously agreed termination fee to NXP no later than 9:00 a.m. New York City time on July 26, 2018. " $NXPI, NXP Semiconductors N.V. / H1 My read on this is that the Chinese government has to announce the approval by July 25th. This doesn't mean that the deal has to close by July 25th. It will take 2-3 weeks for all closure processes to complete once the approval has been officially given. From everything that I've read, the deal has been blessed internally by MOFCOM already as they are satisfied by all remedies brought forth by Qualcomm. It's just that the Chinese government will not announce the approval until the ban on ZTE has been fully lifted and ZTE is back in business. So, the deal for NXPI is being held hostage essentially by the Chinese government in exchange for ZTE. Now the US Senate has interfered and that will be another obstacle that has to be overcome by President Trump. Once that's done then the ban can be lifted, ZTE will be in business and NXPI approval will be announced. The main issue is timing. Will the ban be lifted before July 25th or will Qualcomm and NXP extend the agreement since the light is very near the end of the tunnel. That remains to be seen. So, do you hold em or fold em. Hopefully, most of the hedge funds have been burned enough so they are out and have moved on. That leaves the believers to scoop up cheap shares and eventually make money on a stock that is in the right spot of technology.Even without MOFCOM's blessing, NXP walks away with an easy $2 billion. More recently, with ZTE paying the final penalty and resuming business, China will respond by approving this deal.NXPI Buyout will go through.Agree or disagree? Login now to vote.
