Bloomberg NewsBoston saw 64.8 inches of snow in February.If you live on the East Coast, it may have seemed like the world was turning into an icy, snow-covered abyss this winter. Much of the Northeast saw one of the most severe winters in recent history, and a February storm covered parts of the Southeast with 8 inches of snow. Power outages, highway closures, transportation delays, and school closures all ensued. But, in fact, record high temperatures in the West outweighed the frigid weather of the East to make the 2014-2015 winter the 19th warmest on record for the contiguous United States. So says the data out of NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center, which highlights these climate anomalies for this winter: Arizona, California, Nevada, Utah, and Washington each had their warmest winter on record.Below-average winter temperatures, driven in large part by a frigid February, were observed from the Mississippi River to East Coast. But, due to a mild first half of winter, no state had winter temperatures that ranked among their 10 coldest.Twenty-three states had a top 10 cold February, and Buffalo, Chicago and Cleveland had their coldest February on record.Boston received 64.8 inches of snow in February, the snowiest month on record for the city.
