Chipotle to Begin Testing Burrito Deliveries by Drone

Virginia Tech students could be in luck soon as Project Wing, a sector of Alphabet Inc. is working with Chipotle Mexican Grill to test out burrito deliveries through drones on campus. There’s been a lot of talk lately about the developments of these flying contraptions – Mercedes-Benz recetnly invested to build a drone-carrying van andAmazon is continually working to perfect its own delivery services. “It’s the first time that we’re actually out there delivering stuff to people who want that stuff,” Dave Vos, head of Project Wing states.

It’s also been reported that the FAA is aware of the upcoming tests as the campus is now an authorized test site. Flying at under 400ft, carefully packaged burritos will be attached to the drones and flown by automation. The process will also be supervised by human pilots just to make sure everything goes smoothly as possible. Furthermore, food was chosen as the means of product to transport because it presented a challenge — the companies wanted to see how the packaging performs in terms of keeping edibles warm. While still in testing phase, it will be exciting to see how soon we can all get different types of food delivered to our doorstep by drones.
