Wall Street set to bounce back after Wal-Mart-inspired losses

U.S. stock futures saw a solid bounce early Thursday, a day after disappointing retail sales data and a warning from retailing behemoth Wal-Mart Stores Inc.WMT, -1.17% Dow Jones Industrial Average futures YMZ5, +0.04% rose 86 points, or 0.5%, to 16,907, while those for the S&P 500 index ESZ5, +0.09% gained 10.75 points, or 0.5%, to 1,994.50. Nasdaq-100 futures NQZ5, +0.27% rose 26 points, or 0.6%, to 4,352.50. The gains come after the Dow industrials DJIA, +1.28% slid 1% to below the psychologically key 17,000 level as Wal-Mart's dour forecast and the Fed's Beige Book survey amplified concerns about the economic recovery. But stock futures took inspiration from Asia and gains fueled by expectations the Federal Reserve has an ever-weakening case to increase interest rates this year. The Shanghai Composite Index SHCOMP, +1.60% rallied nearly 3% to 2,027.83.
