New reports show that Netflix is responsible for 34% of traffic downloaded during peak evening hours this year, which is up from the previous 32% of last year. With the large traffic increase, Netflix felt compelled to make a deal with Comcast to route traffic onto their network. Google's YouTube is the second highest traffic source after Netflix, with 13% of total usage. This figure has dropped from 19% about half a year ago. These numbers will surely spark a debate regarding Net Neutrality. Many cable companies are saying that they could give preferential treatment to certain sites depending on how much data they are sending over. This is exactly the reason for Netflix/Comcast deal in February.
