FedEx Will Deliver a Paltry Dividend Fast, Big Earnings Growth Later

Shares of global shipping giant FedEx (FDX - Get Report) will begin trading ex-dividend on Thursday. That's the day management of the company will finalize its roster of shareholders to whom it will send its next round of dividend payments. To qualify for a payout, investors must own FDX shares on or before the ex-dividend date. Investors of record as of Dec. 14 will receive their payments on Jan. 4, 2016.

Based on its recent price range around $151, FedEx's 25-cent quarterly dividend yields about 0.66% annually -- some 134 basis points lower than the 2% average yield of companies in the S&P 500 (SPX) index. It's not a great yield, and this quarter will mark the third straight period during which FedEx has made a 25-cent per share payout.
