The world's richest man Carlos Slim and his telecommunications company America Movil (NYSE: AMX) have placed a $7.2 billion euro bid for 70% for Dutch Telecoms KPN. The move challenges rival company Telefonica (NYSE: TEF) who placed an $11 billion dollar bid to buy KPN's E-Plus in Germany. Together to two companys control 60% of the mobile phone market in Latin America. With America Movil buying stake in KPN and Telekom Austria the two companies rivalry is growing more global than before, America Movil is based in Mexico and Telefonia is based in Spain. Its interesting to see how these telephone companies move continent to continent fighting for the same customers.
