Increase Ad sales propelled AOL, Inc.’s (NYSE:AOL) third quarter earnings four cents above estimates. Excluding certain items, AOL reported earnings of 55 cents per share and revenues of $561 million. In addition, advertising revenue jumped to $386 million driving largely by video advertising. However, net income was dragged downward because of losses at Patch, the website for local community news. Impairment write downs and restructuring costs at Patch decreased AOL’s net income by 90 percent. But the market likes the continuing growth of AOL’s advertising arm. AOL has been shifting more and more towards video advertising than digital. Video advertising is more lucrative. In current trading, shares are up 8 percent.
