Shares of Walt Disney Co were trading lower by 0.30 percent ahead of Monday's market open despite its latest film, "Jungle Book," crossing the $500 million mark in worldwide ticket sales.
to COMSCORE, Inc. , Disney's latest film saw domestic ticket sales of $60.8 million and $156.8 million in global box office ticket sales. The film has also posted the best second weekend sales of 2016 and has now collected $528 million in total ticket sales since the film's release.
ComScore's Senior Media Analyst Paul Dergarabedian commented, "Disney proves once again that the jungle is where audiences around the world wanted to spend their time as 'The Jungle Book' dominates at the multiplex this weekend with a bear-sized $156.8 million and pushes this pre-summer season hit film to over the half billion mark through Sunday. Notably, Universal's 'The Huntsman: Winter's War' had its North American debut and in combination with the international cumulative box office to date of $80.2 million pushed its total to just over $100 million globally."
Despite the encouraging ticket sales figure, shares of Disney were trading lower by around 0.20 percent ahead of Monday's opening bell.
