Target Said to Be Selling Fidget Spinners With Over 300 Times Legal Lead Limit

Target (TGT - Get Report) was found to be selling fidget spinners with as much as 330 times the federal legal limit for lead in children's products.

Consumer advocacy group U.S. PIRG found that two of the popular toys contained dangerous levels of lead. The first, "Fidget Wild Premium Spinner Brass" was discovered to contain 33,000 parts per million (ppm) and the second, "Fidget Wild Premium Spinner Metal" contained 1,300 ppm of lead.

The legal amount of lead considered acceptable in children's products is 100 ppm.

"Lead is dangerous for everyone, but young children are most at risk. Even low levels of lead exposure can impact development in children, and no amount of lead in a child's blood is safe. What's more, effects of lead exposure in young children cannot be reversed, which is why we need to prevent their exposure in the first place," U.S. PIRG said.

Shares of Target were sinking during mid-morning trading on Thursday.

Target did not immediately respond to TheStreet's request for comment.
