Companies have taken first steps toward merging

Anheuser-Busch InBev SA and SABMiller PLC have agreed on the initial terms needed to merge, in a deal that would create the world’s largest brewer accounting for about a third of the world’s beer sales.

Sounds huge? It is. As the following chart illustrates, the new company would own dozens of the world’s most popular beer brands, posing a challenge to regulators. To be clear, this covers most of the companies’ brands, but it’s not a complete list.

InBev BUD, +1.41% is already the world’s biggest brewer, with SABMillerSAB, +0.16% in second place. A combination would have market share of 29%, according to estimates from research firm Euromonitor.
