Will QUALCOMM's Snapdragon 821 Chip Power 2016 Nexus Phones?

Will QUALCOMM's Snapdragon 821 Chip Power 2016 Nexus Phones? - Google Inc. NASDAQ:GOOGL, QUALCOMM Incorporated NASDAQ:QCOM

A report from Android Police explained, "Based on information from multiple and reliable sources, we believe it is extremely likely both of Google's upcoming Nexus phones, Sailfish and Marlin, will be using the Snapdragon 821."

The report noted that while Samsung (SAMSUNG ELECTRONIC KRW5000 SSNLF)'s upcoming Note 7 may also feature the 821 (at least in the United States), the authors "felt confident that the 2016 Nexuses would also be using a newer Qualcomm part, we just didn't know what it would be called, exactly."

Android Police added that as long as "Qualcomm doesn't go announcing an even faster 820-series Snapdragon in the next month or two, you can probably assume this is what the next Nexuses will be rocking."

On Monday, Qualcomm officially announced the arrival of Snapdragon 821.

The company said the Snapdragon 821 can deliver a 10 percent performance increase over the 820 with the Qualcomm Kryo quad-core CPU, reaching speeds up to 2.4GHz.

Qualcomm said users can expect commercial devices powered by the 821 in the back half of 2016.

Notably, the predecessor Snapdragon 820 currently powers some of the most advanced, feature rich smartphones today, including the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, Xiaomi Mi5, LG G5, HTC 10, LeEco LeMax 2, and Sony Corp (ADR) SNE 1.96%'s Xperia X.
