The Comic That Introduced Superman Sold for the Price of a Rare Ferrari

The first issue of Action Comics, a comic that introduced the world to Superman, has just been auctioned off for nearly $1 million USD. The rare 1938 comic book sold on August 4 for a staggering $956,000 USD at Dallas’s Heritage Auctions, however it falls short of the number one spot for most expensive comic ever sold. That title goes to another copy of Action Comic No. 1, one that sold for $3.2 million USD on ebay back in 2014. That 2014 issue was rated a 9 out of 10 by the Certified Guaranty Company, while this recent auction featured a 5.5-rated copy, which explains the difference in selling prices.

There is said to be only about 100 extant copies of Action Comics No. 1, which Heritage boasts as “the most important comic book ever published.”
