Enclosed is a shortened report: Consensus Third Quarter Earnings per Share Estimates for the 30 Dow Jones Industrial Average Companies Analysts are suggesting caution prior to release of third quarter results. And for good reason! Consensus estimates show that earnings per share on a year-over-year basis show an average (median) decline of 5.8%. Eleven companies are expected to report higher earnings per share, two companies are expected to show flat results and 17 companies are expected to report lower results. Strongest percentage gains are expected to come from Apple, Disney and Home Depot. Greatest percentage declines are expected to come from Chevron, Dupont, Exxon Mobil and Caterpillar. Consensus estimates show that S&P/TSX 60 companies on a year-over-year basis will report an average (median) gain of 2.4%. Thirty two companies are expected to report higher results, two companies are expected to show flat results, 25 companies are expected to report lower results and one company does not report comparable results. Companies expected to record the highest percentage gains include Agrium, Fortis, Pembina Pipeline and Valeant Pharmaceutical. Companies expected to report the highest percentage declines include all energy stocks, Barrick Gold, Bombardier, Brookfield Asset Management, Teck Resources, First Quantum Minerals and Goldcorp.
