Survey: Millennials And Baby Boomers Want To Visit Cuba

JetBlue Airways Corporation NASDAQ:JBLU - Survey: Millennials And Baby Boomers Want To Visit Cuba

JetBlue Airways Corporation (NASDAQ: JBLU) Flight 387 touched down in Cuba on Wednesday, the first scheduled commercial flight departing from the United States to do so since 1961.

Traveling to Cuba as an American is now a lot easier than it has been in the past following a restoring of diplomatic relations back in July 2015. However, this topic has been quite controversial, as one side argues that the U.S. government shouldn't offer legitimacy to a regime that has been hostile to American interests in the past.

Others argue that the Cold War has been long over, and now is the time to begin normalizing relationships.

¡Viva Cuba!

With that said, a study conducted by the travel technology company Switchfly shows travel to Cuba is quite appealing to various age groups.

Switchfly's survey showed that 65 percent of millennials and 45 percent of adults aged 46 and over want to visit the country. Among those who indicated a willingness to visit, 35 percent said they will wait two to five years before doing so. Thirty-six (36) percent of these respondents indicated they may travel to the country within five to 10 years.

By age group, men 18 to 34 were the most willing group to travel to Cuba at 49 percent. The least willing group that plans on traveling to Cuba is men aged 55 to 64 at 51 percent. An equal 51 percent of women aged 65 and over also don't plan on visiting the country.

"In terms of marketing Cuba to customers, travel providers should focus on Millennials," said Daniel Farrar, CEO of Switchfly. "That is definitely where the majority of initial interest lies at this moment in time. As for travelers preparing to visit Cuba for the first time: be sure to bring plenty of cash to exchange upon arrival at the airport, as American bank cards are not yet accepted at Cuban banks, and have all visas in order before departure. Those two precautions will prevent some serious headaches."
