Nokia Corporation’s (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) shareholders are expected to vote today on the deal to sell the company’s mobile phone business to Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) for $7.2 billion. According to reports, the shareholders will approve the deal. In the deal, Microsoft will also receive some patents from Nokia. Microsoft’s window phone software is already adopted in many phones provided by Nokia. After the deal, Nokia will focus on their telecom equipment business. Nokia will be flushed with cash. Word on the street is that Nokia will use those excessive cash reserves to acquire rivals within the telecomunication equipment business.
