Watch How the Ridiculously Long Shots from 'Birdman' Were Filmed

This year’s Academy Awards featured one of the most difficult picks for Best Picture in recent years. With eight strong nominees, each filmed with its own distinct and intriguing approach, the race for the coveted statuette was an incredibly tight one. The winner, Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Birdman, is a film about a faded Hollywood actor fighting out of a typecast as he tries to break into Broadway. The entire picture is made to look like one continuous take, with much of the film truly composed of very lengthy shots. Due to this, meticulous precision with timing was paramount — as supporting actor and Oscar nominee Edward Norton recalls “you’re all relying on forty other people not to drop the ball.” Fortunately, all the hard work put into the movie has paid off, with the film winning four Oscars this past weekend including one for cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki. Enjoy the clip above as the cast and crew give a behind-the-scenes look at one of the many intricate takes in the film.
