Chipotle is in Deep Sh&%

As Chipotle Mexican Grill (NYSE: CMG) continues to get battered by their recent e-coli outbreak, it’s made me wonder: how does news like this make up and comers in the food delivery service feel?

It’s been said that Uber is ultimately in the game of on demand everything. They want to be able to send drivers to any restaurant in the world, grab the food, and then return it to the person who requested it. This would be huge business if it was affordable, and would ultimately disrupt the entire restaurant industry as a whole. If you could order gourmet food quickly and easily and affordably, would that lower the appeal of actually setting foot in a restaurant?

But, what if an E-Coli outbreak stems from one of those services? Can the delivery company reliably claim that there was E-Coli in the affected person’s home, and that it didn’t come from their kitchen? It could get very tricky, legally. I’m curious to see how it all plays out

Regardless, the stumble from Chipotle appears to be boding well for competitors like Wendy’s (NASDAQ: WEN.)
