Recently, we've learned that AT&T has reached out to DirecTV about a possible acquisition. The combination of these two companies would form a pay television giant that would rival Comcast if they successfully acquire Time Warner Cable. This deal, if concluded, will be worth about $40 billion (which is equivalent to DirecTV's current market cap). The reason came about because the Comcast/Time Warner deal back in February. At the moment, it is not revealed how far the talks have gone, but sources believe that DirecTV should be receptive to the deal. This deal is likely to benefit them because their subscriber growth has been steadily slowing down since the majority prefers cable, or phone company delivered TV.
