With 100 Days to Rio 2016, Dow Solutions Are Helping Brazil Deliver A Successful Olympic Games and A Sustainable Legacy

RIO DE JANEIRO, Apr 27, 2016 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- As the countdown clock marks 100 days to the Opening Ceremony of the first Olympic Games in South America, The Dow Chemical Company DOW, -0.13% the Official Chemistry Company of the Olympic Games and Official Carbon Partner of Rio 2016 is helping Rio de Janeiro to deliver an unforgettable event. Dow is providing technologies in multiple Olympic venues, enhancements to city infrastructure and implementing a unique carbon mitigation program across the region that will enable Rio to deliver climate benefits well beyond the Games.

Technologies on and off the field

Dow is involved in nearly 20 projects connected to the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games, spanning from field-of-play technologies to venue construction, transportation and extended infrastructure, including:

  • Deodoro Park: The hockey competition will be played on a high performance innovative synthetic turf system which uses DOWLEX™ linear low density polyethylene resins in the yarn component as well as Dow’s polyurethanes technologies.
  • Maracan� stadium: Dow Plastics are utilized in the pipes from the draining and irrigation system under the natural grass pitch of Maracan� stadium, the venue of the Opening and Closing ceremonies and soccer games.
  • Athletes’ Village in Barra: Coating materials and construction chemicals such as WALOCEL™ were utilized in the finishing of the buildings that will host competitors from more than 200 countries. The 28 modular water tanks were manufactured with resins from...
