Intel lost its challenge against a 1.06 billion euro fine from the European Union handed down to the chip maker five years ago. According to Europe's second highest court regulators did not act too harshly. In 2009 the European Commission said, Intel tried to hinder rival Advanced Micro Devices by giving rebates to PC makers such as Dell, Hewlett Packard Co. NEC, Lenovo for buying computer chips from Intel. The EU competition authority also claims Intel paid German retail chain Media Saturn Holding to stock only computers with its chips. In its 300 page decision the court said, "The Commission demonstrated to the requisite legal standard that Intel attempted to conceal the anti competitive nature of its practices and implemented a long term comprehensive strategy to foreclose AMD from the strategically most important sales channels."
