It’s no secret that Twitter shares plunged in 2015 to the tune of 37 percent. (NYSE: TWTR) There were reports that Jack Dorsey couldn’t run two companies, that the site is full of bots, that the targeted ads were the most offensive things since Amazon plastered the New York City subway system with swastikas to promote that new show (okay the last one might just be me, but come on, Twitter. I don’t want your weird ads telling me that there is an Alien parasite in my gut!) Whatever reason you want to pick, the company struggled mightily. And yet I can’t shake the feeling that they will be okay long term. I use Twitter every day. A lot of my friends use Twitter every day. Every time I turn on the TV, there are reports on things people said on Twitter. It seems like ESPN wouldn’t be able to function without it. Then there are the new features. Vine and Periscope are already huge, and still growing. Moments, a feature that “curates content around specific events or topics” will be like trending stories (something people LOVE) on steroids. They also are making a huge push to monetize logged out users. I know I’d throw a fit if they somehow found a way to advertise to me while I was logged out, but hey, gotta do what you gotta do to make money, and it sounds like a decent idea. I mean, if shitty sites like AdBlade and RevContent can make money showing gross pictures of diseased tongues and toes, maybe whatever Twitter does will be a boon to their business as well. And it will never be as disgusting as what other people are doing. Let’s all have an awesome 2016 and make tons of money! Maybe Twitter will lead the way.
