Abercrombie & Fitch, in a desperate attempt to stop the downward movement of the company, plans to expand women's clothing, offering bigger sizes and additional colors. They also plan to sell shoes! In the middle of the week, Abercrombie's shares closed at $33.13 which is down 14% for the quarter. It has gotten pretty bad, they have lost 7 times in a row now. It would seem that many of their buyers have turned to trendier and more recent fashion clothing, and many prefer to shop online instead. As of now, the company has done what they can to cut down expenses, but perhaps it is simply not enough. Other competitors such as H&M and Forever 21 are doing what they can to keep up with fashion trends and put out clothing at cheap(er) prices. On the other hand, A&F has been sticking with out of style clothing that targets only teens who want to be cool. Their plans for the holiday season is to offer massive discounts to get rid of their existing inventory. Not only that, but they've been getting some bad publicity through their CEO Mike Jeffries who openly say that their clothes are for cool and good looking kids, pushing away any potential customer who does not fit their stereotype. I suppose we will have to see how they do.
