Why Men Are Flocking to Lululemon

According to a recent survey, 19% of male Lululemon shoppers wear the company's clothes on a daily basis.

Athletic apparel companies have struggled in recent months, but a new survey suggests that Lululemon could be the exception to that rule.

Men, in particular, seem to be developing a more favorable opinion of Lululemon’s offerings, according to a recent survey by MKM Partners. Male respondents indicated a stronger positive response to Lululemon’s current assortment of clothing than they did in prior quarters. They also were more likely to have paid for Lulu products than in the past. Bottoms seem to be especially well received.

The majority of women, too, said that Lululemon’s offerings have improved in the last few months. MKM Partners indicated strong consumer response to tops and yoga pants.

Though women’s clothing still makes up the bulk of Lululemon’s sales, menswear represents a fast growing area for the company.

Lulu admitted a few months back that a lack of color in its product line was partly responsible for poor sales, and the company has been somewhat slow to make adjustments. But MKM’s Roxanne Meyer notes “improvement in style/colors by men and women,” which could bode well for the company’s latest financial results. Lululemon reports second-quarter earnings on Thursday.
