One Reason American Airlines (AAL) Stock is Down

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- American Airlines Group (AAL - Get Report) stock is falling by 2.38% to $43.40 in midday trading on Friday, as the company prepares to integrate US Airways' booking system this weekend.

American Airlines and US Airways merged in 2013 and have already combined their frequent flyer programs, The Wall Street Journal reports.

US Airways' cargo unit has also transitioned to American Airlines.

The reservation system transition could lead to disruptions for passengers and employees, which was the case when United Continental Holdings (UAL) merged its systems in 2012, the Journal added.

American Airlines, however, has been taking gradual steps to make the transition, such as not offering US Airways flights after Saturday and increasing its airport employees by more than 20% for the transition period.

US Airways will also operate about 200 flights less than usual tomorrow to make the transition easier, the Journal noted.
