Justice Dept. Seen Challenging Court's MetLife Ruling


The Justice Department is likely to appeal a federal court judge's decision last month that ordered U.S. regulators to remove MetLife (MET - Get Report) "systemically important" designation, according to Obama administration officials familiar with the opinion. An appeal could be made shortly.

That development arose after the federal court judge, Rosemary Collyer, on Thursday released the details of her order, with the text being greeting by Washington insiders as leaving the door open to the possibility that tough restrictions will be re-imposed on the mega-insurer.
