5 Things You Must Know Before the Market Opens Tuesday

Here are five things you must know for Tuesday, Feb. 28:

1. -- U.S. stock futures and shares in Europe and Asia traded mixed Tuesday ahead of Donald Trump's first speech to a joint session of Congress.

Wall Street investors are hoping the president will provide further details on his tax plans and other policy positions in his speech Tuesday evening. On Monday, Trump told a group of governors, "We're going to start spending on infrastructure big." He also said his budget would propose increasing defense spending by $54 billion while cutting domestic programs and foreign aid by the same amount.

Stocks smashed new records with just slight gains on Monday as traders made cautious moves ahead of the president's speech.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended with records for the 12th session in a row, gaining 0.08% to close at 20,837. The S&P 500 climbed 0.10% to 2,369, while the Nasdaq added 0.28% to finish at 5,861, just below its record close of 5,865 set on Feb. 21.
