The luxury hotel chain Mandarin Oriental Group is the most recent company to be hit by a credit card breach, according to a report by security writer Brian Krebs.

The hack could have affected all of its upscale hotel properties in the U.S., including locations in New York, Boston, Washington, D.C., and Miami. "We can confirm that Mandarin Oriental has been alerted to a potential credit card breach and is currently conducting a thorough investigation to identify and resolve the issue," the company said in a statement to Krebs.

A succession of high-profile attacks on payment systems have hit some of the country's best-known businesses in recent years, including retailers Target and Home Depot. In the case of Mandarin Oriental, the credit card data of its high-rolling guests would be particularly lucrative to hackers, who often resell such data on the black market.

The breach comes a little more than a year after a similar incident at hotel franchise operator White Lodging, in which restaurants and gift shops within the Hiltons, Marriotts, Sheratons, and Westins operated by White Lodging were affected.
