In the last trading session, U.S. stocks gained modestly on a surge in oil prices that more than offset the concerns over weak corporate earnings. However, the stocks suffered their biggest weekly drop in two months, falling more than 1% for the week. Among the top ETFs, investors saw SPY gain 0.3% and DIA rise 0.2% while QQQ move lower by 0.07% on the day. Two more specialized ETFs are worth noting as both saw trading volume that was far outside of normal. In fact, both these funds experienced volume levels that were more than double their average for the most recent trading session. This could make these ETFs the ones to watch out for in the days ahead to see if this trend of extra-interest continues: VONG: Volume 8.41 times average This large-cap ETF was in focus on Friday as around 327,000 shares moved hands compared with an average of roughly 44,000 shares a day. We also saw some price movement as VONG added nearly 0.05% in the last session. The big move was largely the result of regained investor’s confidence in global economic growth that can have a big impact on growth stocks like what we find in this ETF portfolio. In the past one-month period, VONG was up 4% and has a Zacks ETF Rank of 3 or ‘Hold’ rating with a Medium risk outlook. USCI: Volume 3.35 times average This commodity ETF was under the microscope on Friday as more than 153,000 shares moved hands. This compares with an average trading day of around 48,000 shares and came as USCI gained 1.2% in the session. The movement can largely be blamed on surging oil price that has pushed other commodities higher as well. USCI was down 1.2% in the past one month.
