Box Office: 'Fantastic Four' Plunges 78% For $2.4M Friday

I did a piece on Friday about the biggest second-weekend drops for a comic book superhero movie, basically seeing what the would-be worst-case scenario would be for the second weekend of Fantastic Four. The good news is that the bedeviled 20th Century Fox franchise-killer won’t break any records in that department, but it’s going to come awfully close. The Josh Trank sci-fi actioner earned just $2.4 million on its second Friday, a drop of 78.2% from last Friday’s underwhelming $11.28m opening day. It looks like the film will earn $8m for the weekend, a drop of 68.75%. That would put it just above the likes of Elektra, Hulk, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine which all dropped 69%.

Even Green Lantern only dropped 66% on its second weekend and its $53m debut was more than double Fantastic Four‘s $25m opening weekend. It’s no Steel (-78%), but it will be among the top ten worst drops for such a film in box office history. And considering the low figure and the utter lack of any good news regarding the picture (the narrative has been dominated by behind the scenes gossip and melodrama), it’s all downhill from here unless the film can recover overseas. The Miles Teller/Michael B. Jordan film will end its tenth day of domestic release with just $42m.

In better news, the top holdover...
