Symantec Corp. is discontinuing it's data backup service, as the CEO Steve Bennett works to distance the company from the personal computer market. Earlier this month the company started alerting customers that it will stop selling its Backup Exec. cloud service in January. The company said the decision was prompted by changes in the PC market. The shutdown will not affect other data storage products from Symantec. In a statement the company said, "Customers want features such as sync and share and mobile access. Backup Exe. cloud was not designed with these features in mind. As a result, Symantec has decided to discontinue Backup Exec. cloud in order to focus on more productive and feature rich cloud based applications which include this type of functionality."
