Tyson Foods Inc., a meat processor, won U.S. antitrust approval for its $8.5 billion acquisition of Hillshire Brands Co. In order to will approval of the deal the two companies had to agree to sell Heinold Hog Markets according to the U.S. Department of Justice. Bill Baer, assistant attorney general of the Department of Justice’s antitrust division said, “Today’s proposed settlement will help ensure that hog breeders in the United States will continue to receive the benefits of vigorous competition when selling sows.”
