Fitbit's 'Make or Break' Smartwatch Production on Track

The production of Fitbit Inc's (FIT) first smartwatch is on track and the company is preparing for delivery later this year, CEO James Park told the Financial Times, according to TechRadar.

The waterproof smartwatch will feature high-tech sensors including accelerometers and heart rate monitors and highly accurate GPS tracking. It's likely Wi-Fi only and won't offer 4G LTE support.

Park's "make or break" smartwatch reportedly was not designed to compete with Apple Inc (AAPL) 's Apple Watch, but rather to offer simple health tracking capabilities and last several days on a charge.

Fitbit is said to be wooing Pandora Media Inc (P) and Spotify in the hopes of getting them to offer built-in support. Park said Fitbit is "definitely focused on figuring out how to best integrate music into the fitness experience for people."

Fitbit stock traded down nearly 3% in the early afternoon.
